If you’re building or remodeling a large open space and want the fireplace to be part of the architecture, this is that unit: it builds into a framed wall, and your tile or stone finishes right to its edge. A standard single-sided fireplace will warm the room just fine; the Ortal TS 98 is the one people notice from three directions. Your finishing materials run right to the edge of the fireplace on all three open sides, so the flame looks set into the wall , not hung on it. Ortal’s passive cool wall technology keeps the surface above the fireplace cool enough that a TV or artwork can hang right above it . Set a temperature on the thermostatic remote and the fire holds the room there on its own, all evening, while whatever hangs above stays where you put it. Possible downsides The double glass version requires household power and won’t operate during a power outage; the protective screen version, without add-ons, can run on batteries. Interior lighting and the black reflective interior are optional extras , not included with the base unit. If you want the fire to anchor the whole room instead of one wall of it, the TS 98 is the right decision. The open space you planned becomes the room everyone ends up in.
