If you’re building or remodeling and you want the fireplace to be the anchor of the space—the end of a media wall, a peninsula between living and dining—the Ortal TS 68 is the one. It builds into a framed wall, so plan on finish work as part of the installation. Choose a single-view unit instead and the fire belongs to half the room; this one belongs to all of it. The fire stops being a picture on one wall and becomes the object the room is arranged around. The wall above stays cool enough to hang a TV or artwork right above the fireplace . And because the design is frameless, your tile or stone runs right to the edge of the glass, so the fireplace looks built into the wall rather than mounted onto it. The remote has a built-in thermostat : set 70 and the fireplace adjusts the flame on its own to hold the room there, cycling down as the space warms. Possible downsides The double glass and interior lighting options need household power ; ordered that way, the fireplace won’t run during an outage.
