And because your tile or stone runs right to the edge of the fire , there’s no bulky trim between your finish and the flame. The wall above it stays usable, too. Passive cool wall technology keeps the surface above the fireplace cool enough to hang a TV or artwork right above the fire , not four feet up. Set the remote to 70 and the fireplace holds the room there on its own, adjusting the flame as needed. The internal lighting runs with or without the flame , on a dimmer, so the fireplace still reads warm on a July evening when you don’t want the heat. Possible downsides It won’t operate during a power outage —the lighting and double-glass options run on an AC adapter, so this unit depends on household power. A heat barrier is required —choose the protective mesh screen or the double-glass front at purchase. The black reflective interior is an add-on , not included with the base unit.
