Choose a single-sided unit instead and the fire stays a picture on one wall; choose this and it becomes the architecture. From the kitchen island, the dining table, or the far end of the sectional, you’re looking at fire, not at the side of a cabinet— the same fire, from every angle. The frameless European design lets your tile or stone run right to the edge of the glass, and Ortal’s passive cool-wall construction means you can hang a TV or artwork directly above the fireplace instead of leaving the wall bare. Because it’s a high-glass model, interior lighting is built in. Dim it to taste, or run the light with no flame at all , so the log set still glows on an evening too warm for a fire. Set the remote’s thermostat mode and the flame adjusts on its own to hold the room where you want it. Possible downsides It will not operate during a power outage; the lighting and controls run on a plug-in adapter. The black reflective interior is optional, not included. It ships set up for natural gas; propane requires a certified conversion kit installed by a qualified technician.
