The Vertical Statement Fire A fire that climbs the wall instead of stretching across it. Who it’s for Fireplace showrooms are full of long, low ribbons of flame, and some walls simply aren’t built for one—the panel between two windows, the entry wall, the tall chase in a two-story room. You need a fire that runs tall, not wide . If you’re building or remodeling and want the flame itself to be a piece of vertical architecture, this is the page. A standard linear unit will warm that wall just fine; the Ortal FR 6080 is the one that makes it the centerpiece. Quick facts Viewing area: approx. 21¾” wide by 29⅛” tall—a portrait fire, taller than it is wide Fuel: natural gas; propane conversion available Controls: handheld remote with thermostat; wall switch and app control options Glass style: protective screen or sealed double-glass front—you choose one What makes it special The fire itself is the difference: a rising column of flame instead of a strip of it. And because Ortal builds frameless, your tile, stone, or plaster runs right to the edge of the glass , so the fire reads as part of the wall rather than an appliance set into it. The wall above stays usable, too. Ortal’s passive cool-wall design keeps the surface over the fire cool enough that a TV or artwork can hang directly above it —no deep mantel standing guard. A fire this size needs a barrier between the room and hot glass, and here you choose its form: a fine protective screen or a sealed double-glass front . One keeps the view open to the flame; the other builds the barrier into the unit itself. Possible downsides The double-glass version runs on household power and will not operate during a power outage; the screen version can run on batteries. It ships set up for natural gas; burning propane requires a certified conversion kit installed by a qualified technician. It builds into a framed wall, so installation includes framing and finish work—this is not an insert for an existing masonry fireplace. If the wall you have is tall and you want the fire to be too, the FR 6080 is the right decision. The wall people used to walk past becomes the reason they stay in the room. The FR 6080 comes with your choice of five included log sets—standard, weathered driftwood, refractory clay, or an English log in short or long—and takes upgrade media from bonfire, campfire, and aspen logs to charred branches and single branches in black, grey, or white, plus an optional black reflective interior that mirrors the flame.
