And because Ortal builds frameless, your tile, stone, or plaster runs right to the edge of the glass , so the fire reads as part of the wall rather than an appliance set into it. The wall above stays usable, too. Ortal’s passive cool-wall design keeps the surface over the fire cool enough that a TV or artwork can hang directly above it —no deep mantel standing guard. A fire this size needs a barrier between the room and hot glass, and here you choose its form: a fine protective screen or a sealed double-glass front . One keeps the view open to the flame; the other builds the barrier into the unit itself. Possible downsides The double-glass version runs on household power and will not operate during a power outage; the screen version can run on batteries. It ships set up for natural gas; burning propane requires a certified conversion kit installed by a qualified technician. It builds into a framed wall, so installation includes framing and finish work—this is not an insert for an existing masonry fireplace.
